Anthropology of Sustainable Energy

In this course students will learn how the energy of the sun is being harnessed on Earth. Students will discuss how renewable and sustainable energy is used for applications on Earth and in space: from the Missouri biomass program, via the solar panels on the International Space Station, to solar sail satellites for traveling to the stars. The course discusses different types of sustainable energy: solar, geothermal, biomass, wind, tidal, and more. Students will learn about construction, use of, and efficiency of solar cells, wind mills, dams, and other ways of harnessing energy in Missouri and all over the world. The class will discuss scenes from several popular Hollywood movies.
