Theatre course: The History and Theory of Non-Western Theatre (graduate seminar)

Course Number(s): THEATR 4005/7005: Topics
Semester: Spring 2012
Hours: 3

This course will explore the current proliferation of digital media being incorporated into live theatre performance. The course will operate in two distinct yet intrinsically interrelated units. Part of the course will evolve mainly as lecture and discussion, tracing the history of this practice, identifying key practitioners and performances, analyzing the theoretical context of this emerging form of media art, and investigating the implications of such work on the live art form as well as our own daily lives. The other half of the course will require the students to devise and perform an original, multi-media performance piece for the public at the end of the semester. This is a performance course, but previous performance experience is not required.
