VIDEO: The Importance of Every Day Modest Daily Activity

October 23, 2014

Some dangerous health problems don’t appear in the mirror. University of Missouri researcher Dr. John Thyfault discusses exercise and how it impacts Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and other potentially fatal metabolic disorders.

Over 90% of Americans don’t get enough exercise. Even those who exercise regularly might still have increased risk for disease if they are inactive throughout most of the day. Weaving in physical activity can have a profound influence on health.

Doctors estimate that in twenty years, the majority of liver transplants will not be due to alcoholism but to obesity. Obesity rates have doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents. Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult onset diabetes, but is now seen in teenagers and children. Unless current trends change, many Americans will be unable to live a normal life.
