Suzette Heiman

Suzette Heiman is a preeminent authority in the field of corporate communications.

Prior to joining the University of Missouri journalism faculty in 1989, Heiman enjoyed a successful career in advertising and public relations management, marketing and web communications and media relations. She now oversees the Missouri School of Journalism’s publications, marketing, media relations efforts and web site.

Heiman is a co-author of one of the leading introductory textbooks on public relations, “Public Relations: The Profession and the Practice.” She has held key leadership positions with the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) for the past 20 years and with the National Advertising Review Board, the self-regulation arm of the advertising industry. She has also served as a member of the advisory council at Best Practices in Corporate Communications.

Heiman is passing her expertise along to the next generation of journalists. In 2016, the journalism school partnered with global marketing agency VML to create a professional training program for students wanting to work in social media. The resulting course, “Advanced Social Media Strategies,” was successfully launched with Heiman at the helm.

Suzette Heiman is a professor of strategic communication and Director of Planning and Communications for the School of Journalism.
