Mizzou Adventures in Education

school

The Graduate School sponsors Mizzou Adventures in Education, a free public outreach event for families with children in grades K-6. More than 100 graduate students work on disciplinary teams to effectively translate their research into engaging, age-appropriate educational activities for children. With this proposal our aims are to (a) transform graduate students’ thinking about interdisciplinary research and outreach and (b) establish a new interdisciplinary model for K-6 outreach that is uniquely inspired by the Mizzou Advantage focus areas.  A key learning outcome for both children and adults: Interdisciplinary research solves real-world problems and benefits our society. Deliverables:  Four interactive learning displays related to the Mizzou Advantage focus areas. After the event, the displays will travel to numerous venues in the greater Columbia area.  Added value: This educational outreach initiative will extend publicity on the broader impacts of Mizzou Advantage, particularly with stakeholders like the National Science Foundation.
